Telfair Museum - Beyond: Light, Color, and Illusion

Dichroic Glass Film Aidan Lincoln Fowler Telfair Museum Beyond Exhibit

For the first half of 2022 I will be showing four pieces in the Telfair Museum in Savannah Georgia

“Complementing Chul-Hyun Ahn’s work Telfair Museums presents installations by artists exploring light, space and illusion in videos and installations with and without physical elements. Works include artist Ryan Buyssens’ kaleidoscopic motorized light sculpture, Aidan Lincoln Fowler’s video infinity mirror, and interactive video and video sculpture by Savannah-based and international artists.”

Below are some installation videos and images. Ouroboros and Heavenly Forms are lent from private collections but Infinite Reflections and Event Horizon are available works.

A collaboration between Aidan Lincoln Fowler and Young-Min Choi

Event Horizion is a lenticular video sculpture which imagines what happens at the Event Horizon of a black hole. The sculpture consists of over 6000 leds controlled by a raspberry pi computer which are embedded inside of a lenticular lens box.

The properties of lenticular stretch and skew each individual pixel creating the illusion that the box is filled with volumetric light as opposed to the flat led screen which is actually present in the bottom of the sculpture.

Infinite Reflections is the first video infinity mirror. Consisting of over 13,000 leds, bent screens are suspended between a one way mirror and a convex mirror presenting the viewer with the illusion that they are moving through an infinite tunnel of stars.

Inspired by the ancient Egyptian and Greek symbol of the same name, Ouroboros represents the unity of all things material and spiritual that never disappear but perpetually transfigure: Ouroboros never looks exactly the same.

Two sets of LEDs illuminate an infinity pattern around the edges of the piece casting colorful shadows through dichroic film. Two intertwined spirits - in constant intersecting flow - are independent yet create one fluid ever changing relationship of light and color.

This pieces was commissioned to commemorate the moment of engagement between Jasmine Richards and Jamie Lonie.
